To all of our Customers,
It has been over two years now since the FIT / microFIT program started. Many of you have your Atrax™ trackers operational for over a year and some going on two years. As we all know, it was bumpy road with many challenges and I thank you for your patience and support.
I would appreciate hearing back about your experiences with your system(s) so far.
One customer called to let us know that his systems survived a tornado that passed ”within 1/8 of a mile. It knocked down 4 hydro towers and 5 hydro poles”. One of our systems did not go flat but suffered no damage. In another tornado near Goderich, the roof was blown off of the Ben Miller Inn and parts landed in the field of one of our customers. Again no damage occurred to our trackers.
There have been several new developments over the summer.
After 8.5 years we have outgrown our office space and have moved to our new office showroom / solar park located at 5246 Hwy 7 between Havelock and Norwood. The purpose of our new location is to show as many solar systems as possible actually operational. We will be officially off grid using one of our trackers for our electricity. We have a rooftop microFIT system installed using the Atrax™ roof mount system. This is the same racking used on the 120kW FIT project we installed near Listowel. Additionally we have other systems for hot water to save energy as well as complete off grid solar systems.
We are now typically able to install systems within 2-4 weeks from the time of order if the offer of contract and Hydro approval are in place. Generally, we have all ground mount, rooftop and tracking systems in stock ready to ship and install with crews available. For the roof top and ground mount systems we offer “do it yourself” packages as well.
On October 31, 2011, the Ontario Minister of Energy, Chris Bentley, announced that the government has commenced its biennial review of the Ontario Power Authority’s FIT and MicroFIT programs. Some are anticipating FIT / microFIT rate reductions of 15%-20%. This means that roof mount system would be between 64.2 and 68.2 cents down from 80.2 and ground mount would be 51.4 to 54.6 cents per kW down from 64.2.
Our 12.5kW/10kW nameplate seasonally adjustable Ground mount DIY (Do It Yourself) system kits meet the 60% Ontario content rules and is $49,152 plus HST. These systems fully installed range from $62,000 to $72,000 depending on site conditions.
Based on the lower proposed rates, annual income would be approximately $7200 so the payback would be between 8.5 and 10 years.
The Atrax trackers would pay back in under 10 years with estimated income of over $10,000.
An Atrax™ 12.5kW /10kW Nameplate roof mount system is generally under $60,000 installed. Unlike many racking systems, Atrax™ systems do not void manufacturer’s warrantees. Based on the lower proposed rates, annual income would be approximately $8,350 so the payback would be a little over 7 years.
The programs are still accepting applications and will time stamp them for order of connection. I suggest putting in your applications while it is still possible. Let us know if you have any questions.
I welcome you to stop in to see us when you are in the Peterborough area and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
John
